One way of learning lists of things, like the geological periods, is to think of a phrase in which the first letter of every word corresponds to the first letter of the thing. A technique that helps you remember things is called a mnemonic.

Delicacies Devonian

Jovially Jurassic

The Tertiary
Queen! Quaternary
