If you asked
somebody on the street to name a past geological period, the
most common response after "don't know" would be the "the
Jurassic". Thanks to Jurassic Park and other media productions,
it has become, bizarrely, one of the most beloved periods in the
earth's history.
The world
certainly was a very different place in the Jurassic period
(208-144
MYA). Small herbivore dinosaurs
gave way to the enormous Sauropods, with giant bodies and long,
thick necks. About halfway through the period ferocious
Allosaurs began to spread, and flying birds evolved. Aquatic
reptiles like ichthyosaurus and the plesiosaurs preyed on
smaller creatures in the oceans.
