The Triassic period (208-245
MYA) began the Mesozoic era - the
age of the dinosaurs. The enormous supercontinent Pangaea
began to break up into smaller continents, while large inland
seas formed and a warm climate prevailed.
Life began to
revive from the massive extinction at the end of the Permian
period. In the sea,
ammonites and other molluscs flourished alongside various types
of echinoderm.
Marine reptiles such as ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs appeared.
On land mammals evolved, and the first small dinosaurs appeared
alongside pterosaurs. Insects diversified and evergreen trees
were abundant.
