During the
Devonian period (363-409
MYA) many new forms evolved. Small
plants spread over the land and the first vertebrates to live
solely on the land appeared. Arthropods abounded, including the
first wingless insects and spiders. Beautiful brachiopods
flourished in the oceans alongside ammonites,
echinoderms and
many new types of fish. Corals were also common.
